"Every time I slip into the ocean, it’s like going home." -Sylvia Earle |
I was a child of the water as far back as I can remember. In my youth my parents had to drag me out of every lake, pond, swamp and mud puddle I could find my way in to. I spent my summers growing up swimming the frigid waters of Puget Sound until my lips were blue, all the while imagining what was below the surface. I watched 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea more times than I can count and every Jaques Cousteau program I could get my hands on. I feel like the ocean is in my blood.
From the moment I took my first breath from my father's scuba regulator in a swimming pool at the age of 10, I knew that diving would be a life long passion. I was certified in 2004 and had over 100 dives in my first year of diving. In 2006 I began technical diving and in 2009 I became an instructor. Although I thoroughly loved the diving, I had always felt that something was missing from my diving world... I found the missing piece in 2012 when I was introduced to Global Underwater Explorers. Suddenly I found myself surrounded by people with a passion for exploration and the ocean as strong as my own! I discovered a new level of extremely high standards in training and a unwavering push to achieve excellence in diving! I dove in head first. I took Fundamentals, then Tech 1, then Tech 2. As I have always enjoyed sharing my passion with others I became a Fundamentals instructor in 2015. In 2016 I took the CCR class to expand my diving capabilities and allow me to participate in advanced projects. In 2018 I joined my first major project helping to document and explore the 16th century Swedish warship Mars Makalos . In 2019 I became a GUE Tech 1 instructor. I have been amazingly fortunate to have the love of my life, Bex, also a GUE Tech 2 diver, along with me on this ride!!! And so the adventure continues... |
